Current Volunteer Opportunities
Family & Children’s Program
Playgroup Volunteer
An energetic volunteer is needed to support staff and interact with families & children (newborn to 5 years) at various on-site Playgroups. Duties range from program set up/clean up, welcoming, chatting with families & children, assisting with play activities. Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays, 9:30 am to 12:30 pm, at Lions Gate Community Recreation Centre.
Youth Program
Sports/Games Volunteer
An energetic volunteer is needed to support staff to engage local youth ages 12 to 16 years of age, for drop-in basketball and badminton games, in a safe, inclusive, healthy, and welcoming environment. The focus is on fun and participation. Duties include equipment setup and tear down. Mondays 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm in the gym at Lions Gate Community Recreation Centre.
Seniors Program
My Lions Gate BREAK (MLGB)
An empathetic volunteer is needed to support the MLGB program staff, in providing a diverse range of interactive fun activities for adults 55+ with mild to moderate dementia in a safe, friendly environment. Duties range from program set up/clean up, welcoming, chatting and assisting participants with games, art, and lively group discussions. Mondays or Wednesdays, 11 am to 3 pm at Lions Gate Community Recreation Centre.
Medical Driver
A caring volunteer driver is needed to use their personal vehicle to transport and escort seniors to and from medical appointments on the North Shore. A valid Driver’s Licence, clean Driver’s Abstract and specific vehicle insurance coverage is required. Volunteer drivers assist seniors with impaired mobility, vision, and hearing loss. This outreach opportunity has a volunteer time commitment ranging from 2 to 4 hours a month.
Office Volunteer
An organized volunteer is needed to help with various clerical duties in the Seniors’ Hub office. Duties include filing, assisting with newsletter mailout and distribution, helping with program reminder phone calls, photocopying and other standard office tasks. This opportunity is on an as-needed basis – once or twice a month for 2 to 3 hours.
Red Cross Health Equipment Loan Program (HELP)
Client Services Volunteer
The Red Cross Health Equipment Loan Program (HELP) offers the North Shore community a short-term loan of mobility and personal care aids to people of all ages who are recovering from surgery, illness, or injury. An efficient Client Services Volunteer is needed to provide administrative support like answering the phone and coordinating health equipment loans and returns, at Lions Gate Community Recreation Centre. Good verbal and written English language skills are required. Various 3 to 4-hour weekday shifts are available – mornings or afternoons. Full training is provided with a minimum 6-month commitment.
